When Things Aren't Going Your Way

We all have those days where it feels like the entire world is working against you, in fact, they might just be called Mondays. And sometimes, when these days happen, it can be really hard to turn things around. Today I want to talk to you about ways you can turn it around, because really, nobody wants to have a day like that, right?

Take ten.

Allow yourself a breather, step back and let yourself just pause. Sometimes just taking ten minutes for yourself, step back, make a cup of tea, or go for a walk. Coming back to a big old mess with a fresh mind can make the world of difference, against trying to fix problems when you're lost in the issue. 

Identify what's going wrong.

Instead of fighting a faceless monster, identify what's wrong. Is it technical, is it something you're doing or your approach to the task? 

Reassess your goals.

What are you trying to achieve right now? How can you achieve these goals in a different way? Take a few moments to think about another way you can reach your end goal that avoids the issues you're facing.

Ask for help.

'The only mistake you can make is not asking for help.' There's no shame in asking for help, but there is in refusing help. If you know someone can help you, let them.

Keep your chin up.

Don't let the stress keep you down! A positive mental attitude can work wonders.

Talk it out. 

Talking through a problem with someone you trust can help you see other alternatives and solutions. Or at least, they can offer you some motivation!

Take note.

Of what went wrong, and how you can avoid a similar situation in the future. It's only a wasted opportunity if you don't learn from it!

Boyfriend Jeans 3 Ways

I honestly never thought I'd be writing a post like this because, in all honesty, I never thought I'd own a pair of boyfriend jeans, much less like them. Skinny jeans have been my jam for as long as I can remember, but in a recent moment of madness I picked up a pair of boyfriend fit jeans and I bloody love them.

The jeans in question are these the American Eagle Tomgirl Jeans. They're pretty heavily distressed, my granddad likes to comment on them as 'You look like you've been down the mines' (grandparents, sigh), but the distressing was actually the key for me. I tried on a few pairs, looking for something a little more comfortable than my skinnies, and without the distressing they just looked a bit weird. So top boyfriend jean shopping tip - try on loads of different styles and colours, and don't be discouraged if you try on a pair and hate them.

Look One - Beach Ready - almost.

This first look is basically an amalgamation of all the items I just wanted to throw on when I first tried these boyfriend jeans on. We're talking crazy bed hair, loose fitting beachy tee, with a cute bralette poking through, and my favourite western style heeled boots. On the top half, I felt beach ready, but the boots made me feel a little smarter than if I paired it with flip flops. Comfy, casual, and cute, right?

Look Two - Smart Casual.

I've been wearing these jeans to business meetings. Yup, I made them work. Paired with a sheer shirt, nude heels, and a smart bag, these can be dressed up, and I actually got a bunch of compliments on them. The tip here is to pair it with a shirt that has expensive looking embellishments - no cheap buttons here!

Look Three - Sunday Style.

You can basically make any style of jeans look good when they're paired with breton stripes and these are no exception. An oversized breton tee half tucked in, paired with a chunky statement necklace, oversized tote, and comfy slip on flats. Perfect for running errands or lazy Sundays down the pub.

5 Things From the M&S A/W Press Day You Need

This week I swung by the M&S press day, for cocktails, snacks & an oggle at the new collection. M&S has SUPER upped it's game recently and is coming out with some seriously awesome stuff, so today I thought I'd round up five of my favourite picks! 

1. Navy Embroidered Jacket: Look at this majestic jacket. I can't think of a single outfit in my wardrobe that wouldn't be improved by this jacket. It's cute and lightweight and a definite statement. I'm obsessed. 

2. Scuse the awful photo quality but LOOK AT THIS COAT. It's everything I've ever wanted in a coat. I'm gonna be picking this up ASAP.

3. Geometric Leggings. I feel like these leggings will inspire me to work out. I really do. They're bloody beautiful. And at £25 much cheaper than LuluLemon!

4. Cosy Cape. I just want to wrap this around me and sleep for four to six weeks. It's thick and heavy and so cosy and snuggly. If I could be in love with a cape then this is it.

5. Statement Earrings. These totally scream 'I'm off to the Met Gala BRB' and I'm obsessed.

The Best of Highlighters

I never used to be that interested in highlighters, but right now it wouldn't be exaggerating to describe myself as obsessed. I'm all about bagging the latest highlighter, and finding new ways to get that glow going on, pretty much all over my face. 

I did one of these posts a while back -> here, and whilst I still love these, I've got some new mentions for you today! 

First up, let's talk about the MAC Mineralize Skin Finishes. These are, in my opinion, one of MAC's most underrated products. I know they had a moment a few years back, but barely anyone seems to talk about them anymore, and I can't help but wonder why. I love every one I've tried, but in particular I get a lot of use out of Lightscapade, and Faintly Fabulous. Lightscapade is a super lightweight, marbelised finish with veins of blue and peach running through. It's not in your face shimmery, so you can use this as a setting powder for an all over glow should the mood strike you. I personally love using it under my eyes to set my concealer, it really brightens things up and gives a good healthy glow. Faintly Fabulous is more of a traditional highlight, I take the lightest two shades on the cheekbones as a highlight, or swirl all the shades together and use over blush, to make things look more glowy and naturally highlighted.

There's been a lot of chatter about the Becca X Jaclyn Hill Highlighter in Champagne Pop and I can see why. For me, this is a little dark for my normal skin tone, but it's the perfect summer glow for when I have a bit of a tan. Not for the faint of heart though, this is like pure pressed gold. 

Y'all know my favourite highlighter of the moment is the Urban Decay Afterglow Highlight in Sin, and for good reason. It's the perfect champagne shade to compliment my skin, it's intensely glowy without being outright-glittery, and it just looks bloody fantastic on the cheeks. This would be my desert island pick, for sure! 

A newer discovery is the Benefit Dandelion Shy Beam, a pink toned liquid highlight with no shimmer particles at all. Since this is not at all shimmery, I like to apply this in a big triangle under my eyes and blend. Not only does it add brightness and a natural looking glow, it also cancels out dark circles under the eyes. If you're not a fan of the traditional shimmery highlight, definitely look into this!
