A Lipstick For Every Budget

I thought I'd share with you a little drugstore dupe I found this week in my own stash! I picked up the Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in Bonheur at duty free last month and it's gorgeous. It looks pretty deep in the bullet but on the lips it imparts a sheer hint of pinky berry goodness. As always with Chanel lipsticks, the formula is gorgeous, sheer and glossy, not drying and it lasts well.

However, after a little swatch session, I realised that the Soap and Glory Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Stick in Plum Jam is pretty much identical in colour. The formula's different, they're both sheer but these are slightly stickier, so they last a little longer than the Chanel offering. If I was to be really pickier, this is slightly pink-er toned than the Chanel, but it's barely noticeable on the lips!

Do you have any good drugstore dupes?

The Best Pizza Joint in London

This is more of a PSA than a blogpost, but you guys need to know about Franco Manca. I discovered this place last summer and it's become my favourite place to eat in London, and that's saying something.

Essentially this place is handcrafted sourdough goodness, there's only five pizzas on the menu, they're all under £7 and delicious. It's simple and wonderful. Everything tastes fresh and wonderful, all the ingredients are fresh and the menu lists where they are sourced from, which I like. And Oh. My. God. The Garlic Oil.

You may now go back to your day.

5 Things: The Makeup Cull

Starting off February with a clean slate! I've obviously been reading one too many minimalist blogs and magazines because the spirit of minimalism has stolen my heart, and this week I've been ruthless, chucking and donating and selling left right and center. Maybe it's a new year thing, maybe it's the realisation that our tiny flat is practically overflowing or maybe I just want to start again, but either way, I'm feeling the less is more vibe. Deciding what to keep and say goodbye too in the makeup department is pretty tricky, so I've got my top tips for if you fancy a spring clean yourselves.

  1. Take out & clear out. It has to get worse before it gets better. Empty the lot out onto your floor/bed and give your storage a good old go around with the antibac. It's easier to see the scale of the problem when it's in a mound on your bed, and really, when was the last time you cleaned all that storage? This is also the perfect time to wash all your brushes too!
  2. When did I buy that? Makeup goes icky, and sometimes it can go icky fast. Generally with liquids you can tell because it'll start to smell a little funky, it's harder to tell with powders, but check out this infographic for a more precise timeline. Wearing expired makeup is like asking for a breakout, so be brutal and chuck it.
  3. When was the last time I wore that? I'm a pretty big culprit when it comes to keeping things 'just in case'. If you haven't worn it within the last two months, say goodbye, you aren't going to wear it. This doesn't necessarily apply to products that are more seasonal, but if you didn't wear it last season, you won't next.
  4. How many identical products do I have? Nobody needs ten peach blushes. Pick your favourites and toss the rest, you won't miss them, I promise.
  5. Toss, Give and Makeup, Friends and Depop. If it's out of date or damaged, just chuck it, it's no good to anyone. If it's unopened, donate to Give and Makeup or your local shelter. And if you just don't use it or need it, offer it round to your friends, or sell it on Depop!

I can't tell you how good it feels! Keep your eyes peeled for a blog sale!

5/52

Am I allowed to say I'm really glad that January is over? I'm definitely ready to close this chapter and move on!

After a tricky start to the week where I just felt a bit overwhelmed, everything picked up after a lunch date with my mama, and an afternoon with the wonderful Daphne. Daphne always manages to cheer me up, I just can't help but laugh when she's around! Also, big thanks to Tami for taking on the role of Life Counselor via WhatsApp, that girl is a saint!

I'm hoping to get cracking on the writing portion of my project this week, as well as making a start on the next portion of my dissertation, so it's going to be pretty busy and pretty boring!
