things I love

September Favourites 2016

I know this is proper monthly favourites cliche, but can you believe that tomorrow is October? I'm simultaneously amazed and a little glad too, this year can do one in all honesty.

10 Favourites from May

I thought I'd mix things up with the format of this month's favourites video, so instead of your usual ramble, I've curated a list of 10 favourites, beauty, fashion and lifestyle bits, into a 96 second video. I hope you enjoy something a little different - let me know what you think in the comments!

The Best of Highlighters

I never used to be that interested in highlighters, but right now it wouldn't be exaggerating to describe myself as obsessed. I'm all about bagging the latest highlighter, and finding new ways to get that glow going on, pretty much all over my face.

I did one of these posts a while back -> here, and whilst I still love these, I've got some new mentions for you today!

First up, let's talk about the MAC Mineralize Skin Finishes. These are, in my opinion, one of MAC's most underrated products. I know they had a moment a few years back, but barely anyone seems to talk about them anymore, and I can't help but wonder why. I love every one I've tried, but in particular I get a lot of use out of Lightscapade, and Faintly Fabulous. Lightscapade is a super lightweight, marbelised finish with veins of blue and peach running through. It's not in your face shimmery, so you can use this as a setting powder for an all over glow should the mood strike you. I personally love using it under my eyes to set my concealer, it really brightens things up and gives a good healthy glow. Faintly Fabulous is more of a traditional highlight, I take the lightest two shades on the cheekbones as a highlight, or swirl all the shades together and use over blush, to make things look more glowy and naturally highlighted.

There's been a lot of chatter about the Becca X Jaclyn Hill Highlighter in Champagne Pop and I can see why. For me, this is a little dark for my normal skin tone, but it's the perfect summer glow for when I have a bit of a tan. Not for the faint of heart though, this is like pure pressed gold.

Y'all know my favourite highlighter of the moment is the Urban Decay Afterglow Highlight in Sin, and for good reason. It's the perfect champagne shade to compliment my skin, it's intensely glowy without being outright-glittery, and it just looks bloody fantastic on the cheeks. This would be my desert island pick, for sure!

A newer discovery is the Benefit Dandelion Shy Beam, a pink toned liquid highlight with no shimmer particles at all. Since this is not at all shimmery, I like to apply this in a big triangle under my eyes and blend. Not only does it add brightness and a natural looking glow, it also cancels out dark circles under the eyes. If you're not a fan of the traditional shimmery highlight, definitely look into this!

2016 April Favourites

April has been a funny old month. The first half flew by, and all of a sudden I was headed to Italy, and then Paris, and the last week and a half crawled by. Isn't it funny how time is so relevant, my first couple of weeks were jam packed, busy, busy, busy, so they flew, but the last week was much slower, and much more chilled out. I can't decide what I like more.

But all in all it was a good month, with some good product mentions to boot!

Let's start with the star of the show - the Urban Decay Afterglow Eight Hour Highlight in Sin. This stuff is the product of the moment, I got lucky and snapped up a pan at an Urban Decay boutique, but it seems this stuff has been selling like hot cakes, and has become pretty difficult to track down. I'm glad I got ahold of it because this stuff is magic - like pressed fairy dust. It's beautifully rich and buttery smooth, and the prettiest champagne shade. It's not glittery but it lends itself to a sheeny glow on the skin. Not for the faint of heart, this is beach-babe, Kim Kardashian, just-got-back-from-Coachella glow, but I bloody love it.

I've been wearing the Givenchy Wake Up Skin Base a lot this month, a blue toned primer that erases yellow, sallow tones in the skin. I mix a little of this into my Too Faced Hangover X Primer for makeup that looks good and lasts all day.

I've been really digging the NARS Velvet Matte Skin Tint this month, it's the perfect base for a flawless skin & natural finish combo. I love applying this with my beauty blender, it really presses it into the skin and keeps things looking fresh and natural. I've also been obsessed with the Sephora Duo Corrector Perfector, in particular the brightening shade, which has become my go to for colour correcting under my eyes. It's longwearing & doesn't crease, so it's basically the best thing ever.

And a little mention for the Maybelline The Falsies Push Up Drama Mascara. I didn't like this when I first got it, but I LOVED it after it had been open for a week or two. This isn't for the faint of heart, and could almost be described as clumpy, but it makes my lashes look super thick and voluminous.

I had a mini Elemis facial this month at the Debenhams Beauty Press day and since then my skin has been feeling really happy. The Kiehls Cilantro and Orange Extract Pollutant Defending Masque has definitely played a big part in keeping it settled since - I'm bloody obsessed with this, read my thoughts here.

Favourite Things: The March Edition

Can you believe we are already a quarter of the way through 2016?! I can't believe it, it feels like only yesterday we were in 2009. WHEN DID WE ALL GET SO OLD?!

I found it really difficult to pin down my monthly favourites this month because I've been all over the place with what I've been loving. I've managed to pin down a few things though, so without further ado, let's chat favourites.

Makeup-wise I've been keeping things simple, so I only have three things to tell you about. Firstly, I've written a full review of the Innisfree Water Glow Cushion Foundation, so I won't chat too much about that. I'll just say that as far as lightweight bases go, this might be my favourite.

Two lip products I wanted to mention, both that have been living in my handbag this month, and both from Clarins! I've been wearing the Clarins Joli Rouge Lipstick in Tea Rose, and the Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector in 07 for most of the month. Tea Rose is a beautiful, everyday pinky nude, in a really comfortable formula, whilst the Lip Perfector in 07 is my favourite shade from the range. I've always liked the formula of the Natural Lip Perfectors but never found the colours quite right for me - until the Spring collection dropped! I haven't tried a lot from Clarins but I do keep coming back to their lip products!

Two other beauty mentions, firstly I got a new bottle of my Grown Alchemist Gentle Gel Facial Cleanser for my birthday and I've been reminded how much I love this stuff. If you're looking for a super gentle cleanser to follow up your makeup remover then look no further!

After recolouring my hair at the beginning of the month, I picked up a new intensive conditioner to keep my locks smooth and shiny. Despite not being blonde, I ended up picking up the Tigi Bed Head Dumb Blonde Reconstructor for Chemically Treated Hair, and I've been really enjoying it. It's intense and leaves my hair feeling soft and healthy, without weighing it down or making it feel greasy.

Two fashion favourites I wanted to mention, the first is this gorgeous necklace from Cos. My mum picked this up for me whilst we were out shopping a few months back and put it away for my birthday, and I'd actually forgotten about it until I unwrapped it! I love how long and weighty it is, it's the perfect piece to go with my simple, monochrome wardrobe.

I also picked up  a new pair of Nike Free Runs this month - I've been on the look out for months for a new black pair and finally found these in the Nike Outlet. They were a steal at £45 and are basically the only shoes I've worn this month!

And lastly, a shoutout for the fantastic programming on the BBC this month. I don't watch a lot of TV but I've been hooked on both Thirteen and American Crime Story. If you like gritty crime stuff, I'd highly recommend checking both shows out!
