It was quite a lovely surprise when I received a message saying there was a Glossybox waiting down at reception for me (when you live in a building full of fashion students, your office staff start to recognise packages like that), since this months box is Valentine's themed, I can only assume we got them early, so as not to miss the date completely. Either way, it was a nice, unexpected start to the week.
However, I have to say, I am really disappointed with this months box! For me, last months box was great, I've gotten tons of use out of every product, however, I feel like this month's products really aren't gonna get much use. They'll probably just end up languishing in the box under my desk full of products I don't use, til my best friends/sister/mum come over and raid my beauty supplies again!
I really like this months pink themed packaging! How pretty is this! I'm actually going to use this box to store my nail varnishes, I recently had a clear out and the remaining polishes fit perfectly in the box! Also, I'm going to reuse the pretty pink ribbon to wrap around my Valentine's pressie for the boyf. See, it's all about the recycling gals!
For me, the first let down came when I realised that unlike a lot of other people, my box did not contain an Anatomicals Cleanser. When I saw that others had received that in their boxes, I was really excited, I love Anatomicals products! Instead I got the Rituals Cherry Blossom and Rice Milk body cream, which is an amazing product, that I really like, BUT I got this in Decembers box...I haven't even used half the first bottle yet, so for me this is a massive letdown. Really, I should be grateful, because I would have repurchased this anyway, but it's kinda annoying because it means I don't get to try another product. Either way, this is a great product, smells beautifully, cherry but not to in your face. It's very creamy, and a little goes a long way, a small blob the size of a 20p piece will do a whole leg, which is quite impressive since I'm 5"11 and my legs go up to my armpits. Also it's pretty natural, there's not too many nasties in it. Full size is 200ml and £15, but you can buy this 70ml size in some stores, for £5, which I think is pretty good. I actually prefer this size, easier to chuck in your handbag (I feel like I write this a lot, am I only a fan of handbag sized, travel products? What is this...)
Rituals Magic Touch Body Cream is £15 for 200ml.
This is my favourite product in this months box (I'm not counting the body cream)! It's a beautiful, golden shimmery highlighter. I've got a real thing for highlighters at the moment, I'm currently using Benefit's Watts Up, but this is lighter, and unlike Watts Up, you can use it on your inner eyes! It's a really nice shade, sometimes I find with products like High Beam, they leave a whitey pigment to your skin, you don't get that with this at all, it just brightens up your skin! You can also mix this into your foundation before applying, I find this makes your face a little too shimmery, but I think it would look lovely in the summer with a tan!
Definitely gonna be incorporating this into my daily makeup routine!
MeMeMe Cosmetics Beat the Blues Highlighter, in Oyster Gold is £5.50 for 12ml.
I am one hundred percent sure that I will never ever wear this lipstick ever ever ever. In the barrel, it looks like a purpley shimmer satin colour, then you swatch it and it's surprisingly pink. However it's pretty much all shimmer, it looks ridiculous on me. In the swatches above, the first one is just one layer, it's quite sheer and pretty managable. The second swatch, I built up the colour and it's quite intensely shimmery, definitely more than I will wear! On the right side of my hand, I blended it into my skin, I'm not sure if you can see, but it left no colour payoff at all, just shimmer, which kinda proves my point really. Either way, I don't really like this, it's definitely headed to the under desk box!
Miners Cosmetics Lip Colour in Dreamer is £3.99.
This lip balm is a weird one, in the pot, it looks lumpy, kinda like rice pudding, but it applies smooth. Not sure what that's about. It's seriously moisturising, this sounds weird but my lips felt....well...wet for about half an hour after I put it on. But in a good way. Also, you can apply it as a face and body balm. Yeah. Not sure about that either. Weird. Really weird. I feel like you'd be inviting oils into your face if you were to put this on. I guess it would be nice as a body balm, but it really wouldn't go far.. Either way it works as a lip balm. It's 100% organic, so no nasties here either, and the packaging is gorgeous! And yes, it's a perfect size for your handbag! However, I don't think I will ever use it, since I hate anything that is rose scented, except, well, roses. And after putting this on my lips, I was knocked out by the smell of roses for a good hour. If I do use it, I think I will end up using this on my elbows (I know, weird) since I suffer from the eternal dry elbow, and this is pretty moisturising. And I can't smell my own elbows. Yeah okay, I'm gonna stop now, cause this paragraph is getting weirder and weirder.
Figs and Rouge Rambling Rose Lip Balm is £.49 for 8ml.
Another product that I doubt will ever get used, the Micabella Mineral eye shadow. It's a really nice colour, I got shade 53 Deep Secrets, it's a beautiful neutral brown with gold shimmer, somewhat reminiscent of Snakebite in the Naked2. I have a serious problem with powder eye shadows like this though, since every time you open the pot, half of the product falls out, and when you apply it to your eyes, it tends to fall all over your face. It's a nice quality shadow, it applies really evenly, and it's very well pigmented, but it's just messy! Also, this is the full size product, 2.5g, it's pretty small and it's quite expensive. I may use it occasionally, but this isn't definitely the sort of thing I would go and purchase with my own money. If I wanted to wear this colour I would probably just head for my less messy Naked 2. I would however be interested in trying some of Micabella's other products, since this is a great quality little shadow, I just don't like powders! If this was a pressed powder shadow, I'd love it!
The inclusion of a heart shaped lollipop in the box was a nice little touch! Definitely going to get on that tomorrow!
What do you think of the products in this months Glossybox? Did anyone get anything different?
Sorry to hear you weren't happy with your box :( I was wondering if you'd like to swap something for my Anatomicals You Need a Bloomin' Shower!? I won't use it because I don't like the smell of rose. Happy to switch if you're up for it? Let me know! kath@newwithhashtags.co.ukhttp://newwithhashtags.co.uk/glossybox-february-2013/
