As part of our New Years Resolutions, the boyfriend and I decided to try and explore a little more of London, rather than spending our time here esconsced in either our University Halls or lecture theatres. So this week we headed out, camera in hand, to Buckingham Palace.
I've only seen the Palace once before, and that was back in 2000, when I was a little six year old, who found the whole of London scary and intimidating.
I was quite shocked at how, well, plain, Buckingham Palace is. If I was a princess (ahh, if only) I would be quite upset if Buckingham Palace was my royal home. It's just not castley enough if you ask me. Or marbley enough.
Having said that, there are some beautiful little details, I've included a few pictures in here, I particularly liked the wrought iron gates, painted in black and gold.
As for my outfit, I'm whistfully missing my summer wardrobe, so I pulled out my trusty black maxi dress, paired it with a plain grey t-shirt, a studded belt, and my lovely snuggly new Topshop scarf. Unfortunately, the weather wasn't great, so I needed to wrap up warm (I actually had a pair of leggings on under my dress!), and the lighting wasn't great, so these pictures aren't quite what I'd have liked! My new Zara sale finds haven't left my feet! I love these little studded flats, they're so comfy and they were only £10!
And what do you think of my gorgeous new bag?! It was an absolute bargain in the sale, and it hasn't left my side, I absolutely love it! I've got a What's In My Bag post coming up, so you'll get to see it in a little more detail then!
After we'd had our fill of photos at Buckingham Palace, we wondered down the street to the Household Cavalry Museum, where we were just in time to catch the horses and guards before they headed inside to seek shelter from the rain! Then we headed over to Trafalgar Square for hot soup and toasted sandwiches in Pret, to warm up!
There is just so much quintessentially English architecture and design in this part of Westminster, it is absolutely gorgeous!

And just a little thank you to my wonderful boyfriend, for taking boring old pictures of shoes!
Thank you! xx
