The Skincare Series: Heavy Makeup Busters

Sometimes, when I've piled on layer after layer after layer of mascara, eye shadows, blushes, bronzers and highlights, I like to pull the big guns into the makeup removing ring, to make my life a bit easier. This is a step I slot in right before my usual cleanse, just to make sure I've really got all the gunk off my face.

One product I reach for, strictly for eye makeup, is the L'Oreal Miracle Cleansing Oil. I restrict this to eye makeup, purely because it's so damn messy that having it all over my face would just be hell, but it's fab at shifting mascara, be it waterproof or not. I take one pump of this, shut my eyes tight and massage it across my lids and over my lashes for around 30 seconds, before rinsing it off with warm water. I like to take Bioderma on a cotton pad over my eyes after, just to get rid of an oil residue, but it takes off every trace of makeup with ease. I have heard some people say this broke them out, but I generally have found that these people were using just this, and then toner. If you leave an oil like this, it will leave a slight residue, and that is going to cause problems, so you should always cleanse as usual after. I've never had any problems with this!

One I go for for full face as well as eyes (it's not as effective for waterproof mascara, but it's pretty damn good) is Lush's Ultrabland. This is a cream product that becomes a thick oil/balm on the skin. This leaves my skin feeling really soft, and hydrated, but again, I always like to cleanse after to make sure every trace of it is gone.

I do also like the No 7 Melting Gel Cleanser, it's amazing at shifting makeup, but I've bought 3 tubes of the stuff and every single time the lid has come off leaving me with a squeezy tube, and 2/3 have had leaky corners, so I've given up!

What do you use to remove heavy makeup?

  1. The L'oreal Miracle Cleansing Oil sounds really great ! You made me want to give it a try if i find it selling around here! And it's definitly important to remove the oil residues that it leaves, maybe the whole broke out thing was actually indeed coming from that!great post!
