Joanna and I headed into the fragrant section of Westfield more commonly referred to as Lush this week for the first time in a while, on the hunt for Popcorn Lip Scrub after reading a thousand and one rave reviews. Of course as luck would have it, they were sold out, but we met the wonderful Nic, who gave us our own little private tour of half the shop, and we came out with a bulging bag of goodies and a ton of blogging inspiration.
Nic suggested that if I liked the Popcorn Lip Scrub, chances were I would like their Let The Good Times Roll facial cleanser that has a similar scent. And ohhhh she was right!
Lush Says: A gentle treat that leaves skin soft with a lingering buttery caramel, popcorn fragrance. Made with popped corn oil, polenta, maize flour and cinnamon.
She tried the cleanser out on my hand in store, my first impression (other than the GORGEOUS smell) was that it's kind of like a very refined facial scrub, one for the little imperfections, just to smooth the surface out. And it worked! My hand has never felt so soft! Even now, countless hand washes, a shower and a bowl full of washing up later, you can still feel a difference between my hands, it's amazing! Having now used it on my face, I'm ready to sing its praises, my skin is silky smooth and refreshed! And it's a steal at a little over five pounds. You only need a very small amount of scrub, and you mix it up in your hands with a splash of water to create a paste, and then you just gently rub it into your skin and rinse off. Buy it, and thank me later!
Next, Joanna and I talked to Nic about our hair, and what we felt it needed. For Joanna, Nic recommended Daddy-O, a toning shampoo that uses lemon and seaweed to help eradicate the brassy tones, and American Cream, to lock in moisture and make her hair smell great!
Here's what Joanna has to say about it...
Daddy-O
Lush Says: A purple shampoo to stop blondes going brassy. Violet and fresh lemons work beautifully together to keep grey and blonde hair bright and shiny (and it works just as well for brunettes too!)
Joanna Says: I've always been a bit apprehensive about using toners on my blonde hair and being the cautious student that I am, I can't justify buying them when they are just so expensive! However after talking to the helpful Nic at Lush I couldn't help but squeal with delight when she generously filled a tub with the Daddy-O shampoo for me to try!
I have quite a lot of hair and after years of highlighting and bleaching, my hair has started to become quite dry. Although it is not classified as ''damaged'' I still wish my hair could be a lot silkier and shinier. I was eager to try this product, so as soon as I got in I jumped straight into the shower to let it work its magic. After showering, I went straight for the hairdryer, and needless to say, I was extremely happy with the results. My roots which were initially the problem area are now brighter and less ''brassy'' than before. My hair also feels extremely soft and healthier - due to the coconut oil and seaweed contained in the product! And lets not forget the scent it has left in my hair. I am absolutely in- LOVE with the smell! It reminds me of the sweets ''Parma violets'' and of course this is due to the - Rose absolute, violet leaf, bergamot and cananga oil used in the recipe.
And all of this after just one wash? I was surprised too. But it get's better. This product is extremely affordable. From the smallest bottle (100g) at 4.95 to the largest bottle (500g) at only 15.95 it's great for uni students like myself on a tight budget! You know this product will last forever!
-The trick to making this product last (and I'm sure this applies to most Lush hair products) is to put the smallest amount of the product into your hands and lather before applying to the hair. This means a little, goes a long way!
American Cream
Lush Says: Bring all the boys to the yard with this strawberry vanilla milkshake conditioner. Double strength and extra creamy to leave your hair gorgeously soft and smelling sweetly.
Joanna Says: Unlike many other conditioners in Lush, I was recommended this particular one to compliment the Daddy-O shampoo as it's best known for its use on thick and dry hair.
I found this product to be quite thick when applied, however it left my hair feeling light and easy to comb through (something of which has never been easy to do when my hair is wet!). It's moisturising formula worked wonders due to the ''combination of honey, strawberries and fresh orange juice'' and left my hair soft and fluffy, locking in all moisture and rejuvenating it to what must be its natural state. The scent however is something I cannot wrap my head around. I found it to smell quite like the Daddy-O shampoo and although that is quite nice, I don't understand the huge hype around it? However all in all, I liked this product and I know i'll be picking up a full bottle along with the Daddy-O shampoo. It's price range is identical to Daddy-O's and therefore results in an affordable buy!
Anyone who has been reading the blog for a while will know that my hair is not in the best condition, after a bleaching incident. Since then, I've been on the hunt for a miracle product to save my hair. Nic recommended I try Blousey, their repairing shampoo for damaged hair, and Retread, an ultra-thick luxurious, creamy conditioner that aims to saturate the hair with moisture, and here's what I thought...
Blousey:
Lush Says: A shampoo for all colours of the world. A rich moisturising wash that lets true colours shine through. For damaged, bleached or naturally fragile hair.
I Say: What drew me to this shampoo is the fact that it's formula is 25% natural banana. That's right, you heard me, a whopping 25%, and yet there's only one preservative in it! With all the product I've been using in my hair recently, the idea of such a natural shampoo really drew me in! It smells amazing, like cinnamon bananas, and my hair already feels better! My one little complaint is that it's quite a bitty formula, and it took a lot of rinsing to get all the little banana bits out of my hair! Well worth the time though, and I will definitely be going back to buy a bottle when I run out of shampoo!
Retread
Lush Says: Drive your hair in for some serious recovery. This conditioner is a pit stop for your hair. We make a seaweed and lanolin base, then add soya milk for protein. Added to that are olive, jojoba and avocado oils to give a deep condition. Nutritious melon juice and yoghurt are then stirred through.
I Say: Although I wasn't blown away originally by this conditioner, it seemed to effect me no more than my usual conditioner, although it did make it better. But my draw to this product is that it's natural, and all the nutrients are going to do a lot more good for my hair, than all the chemicals I've been whacking on it recently. So I'll be sticking with this conditioner, and hopefully, I'll soon have luscious long locks.
So the general verdict is that we have fallen back in love with Lush! We are already planning a trip to the Kings Street store for a little treat soon!
Have you tried any of the products we mention? What did you think?
