What's On My Face: The Party Edit

It doesn't take a genius to figure out I'm far from a party animal. My idea of a wild night is not getting in til 6.30. On the very very rare occasion that I head out to a party (and 'tis the party season after all), I've got an arsenal of products raring to go! I normally go for a smokey eye over a bold lip for parties, cause nobody wants to have to worry about maintaining a bold lip when there are party snacks to be had.

I thought I'd glam up for a boring old Tuesday, and show you what I'll be whipping out this festive season should the mood to party strike.

Starting with base, I used the Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer to prep my skin for foundation, this is by far the best primer I've ever used, it keeps makeup looking freshly applied all day. Love, love, love. My foundation of choice was the Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Foundation, which is one of few foundations I own that offers good coverage but doesn't have an SPF (so no flashback here!). I added extra coverage where I needed it with the MAC Studio Finish Concealer, and the Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer under my eyes, before setting the lot with the Chanel Les Beiges Powder. The result is glowy, natural looking skin, with good coverage, and it lasted well into the night.

To add colour, I went for a natural bronze under the cheekbones and on the temples with The Body Shop Honey Bronzer, it gives a good glow, a hint of defined cheekbones, without a hint or the Oompa Loompa. I then also took a tiny amount, and I mean tiny, of the Tarte Amazonian Clay 12 Hour Blush in Fearless, just on the apples of my cheeks. The matte colour gives a pop of colour without looking over the top. I also took a little of The Balm's Mary Lou Manizer Highlight just on the tops of my cheekbones, to add glow.

The star of this look is the eye makeup, and the key to it all is the Urban Decay Smoked Palette. This palette really doesn't get enough attention, it's got an amazing selection of everyday mattes and beautiful jewel toned shimmers. For this look I took the matte cream shade Kinky from inner corner to browbone, before taking the shimmering silver shade Mushroom from lashline to crease. I spent a really long time blending this shade out to make sure it looked even, before adding a little of the dark graphite shimmery shade Asphalt in the outer third, and under the outer third of my lower lashline too, and again blended it all out. I used a pencil brush to build up the matte black shade Blackout directly in the crease, before giving the whole lot a final blend. You could achieve this look with any matte cream, shimmery silver and slate and matte black, but I can't fault the quality of this palette, the shades are long lasting, smooth, intensely pigmented and easy to blend.

To complete the eye look I took the Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in Trooper along my lashline, with a slight wing, and the L'Oreal Super Liner Mat-Matic in Ultra Black on my waterline. I added lashings of the Bourjois Volume One Seconde Mascara in Ultra Black, and if I was actually attending a party, I may have gone whole hog with false lashes too. I filled in my brows lightly with the Soap and Glory Archery Brow Pencil, and set the lot with the L'Oreal Brow Artist Plumper. I wanted to go easy on the brows since the eye makeup was pretty heavy.

And lastly, I went for a pretty pink lip, with the MAC Lustre Finish Lipstick in Plumful, patted into the lips, and the Buxom Full On Lip Cream in White Russian layered over the top. It's still got a hint of plum, but the gloss makes it a little pinker. I love the look of glossy lips for parties, I think it compliments the shimmer on the eyes well!

And that's that! What do you think of this look? And what makeup do you love for parties?
