Right now, my lips have been inexplicably dry and incredibly sore, so I've kind of been shunning lipsticks, for something that gives my lips a little TLC. Even when my lips are dry, I still like to wear something on them with a little colour, I feel like I look washed out otherwise. This is where the tinted lip balms step in, offering just a hint of colour and an extra boost of hydration.
It's worth noting that none of these products are FANTASTIC lip balms, but the formula of them means they can be easily layered over other lip balms, and that when you're topping up throughout the day, they're not going to be drying or cling to your lips like a lipstick would.

First up, let's start with the most budget friendly. I know the Maybelline Baby Lips divide opinions a little, but personally I really like them. No, they're not the most hydrating lip balms out there, but they don't claim to be. What they do do well however, is give a sheer wash of lightweight colour to the lips. I love Cherry Me, but my favourite is Coral Craze from the Dr Rescue line, which is medicated, so it does give a bit of extra love to the lips. I've started to see the Dr Rescue formula pop up in Boots finally, so it's worth keeping an eye out. For under £3, you can't really complain!
Also purse-friendly are the Kiko Kiss Balms, which really melt into the lips when you apply them. I've had these for a while so I don't know if you can get these particular shades, but it's worth having a little look if you have a Kiko near you! Out of this whole line up, these have the best colour pay off, but they're still subtle.
Moving up a price bracket, the latest addition to my lip balm stash is the Clarins Instant Light Lip Balm Perfector in 03. This is the best of the bunch in terms of that creamy lip balm feeling, it's the most hydrating for sure. The colour range mostly doesn't suit me at all, but this one gives a really pretty hint of pink, that is perfect for everyday, or pairing with a smokey eye.
And lastly, my long term love the Dior Lip Glow. This is a handbag staple for me, whilst not quite as hydrating as the Clarins offering, the colour of this really sticks around, and it's such a pretty shade. Yes it's pricey, and I've had a lot of people say 'why would you spend so much money on a tinted lip balm?', but for me, I've gotten so much more use from this than any other lipstick I own (it's genuinely my most used lipstick), that it's worth every penny!
