I'm a high end girl at heart, but that doesn't stop me from scouring the aisles of Boots on occasion, looking for bargains. Over the last year drugstores have upped their makeup game, and we're seeing some real winners appear in the aisles at more affordable prices.
Let's start with a new product that surprised me, the new Maybelline Master Brow Pro Palette in Soft Brown. I've tried the pencil from this like and didn't love the colour match, but this is fantastic. Two powders very similar in tone, ashy brown powders that match my brows perfectly, and a matte highlight shade that's subtle but beautiful. At £6.99 it's a bargain, and I know I'm going to get a lot of use out of it!
Another win for me was the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet in Plum Plum Girl, a matte finish liquid lipstick in a beautiful berry pink shade. This is easy to apply, and super long lasting, but the best thing about it is that once it's dry you honestly don't feel like you're wearing lipstick at all.
I've not tried much from Barbara Daly, but the Velvet Powder Cheek Colour in Fresh is a new favourite. It's got that barely-there blush thing down, a la Tarte Exposed, but it's got a £6 price tag. It's soft and pigmented, easy to blend, and a gorgeous neutral shade.
I've been loving the Kiko Shadow Stick in Endless Taupe too, it's one of those easy one wash cream shadows you can just scribble on the lid, blend with a finger, and be all done with. It's long lasting too, so you don't need to faff with primers or touch up!
And lastly, one little flop, I've heard good things about the Collection Eyes Uncovered Nude Palette, and with a £3.99 price tag I was hoping this would become a bargain favourite. The shades are all taupey-grey, which I love, and they're soft and easy to blend. Unfortunately, the shades don't really seem to translate well to the lid, and with exception of the darkest shade, they're all really light on the lid. But the worst thing is that they seem to disappear after about an hour or so. Even with a primer, they don't last past lunch, which is disappointing.
Have you tried anything good from the drugstore recently?
