The Makeup Bag: Going Home

This weekend we made a brief fly-in visit back to Bournemouth, it's the boyfriend's birthday tomorrow and he wanted to see his family, and I was missing my puppies! (they aren't really puppies anymore but in my mind they are!)

It's a busy weekend of catching up and hanging out with family, birthday celebrations and off road segwaying (yes there is footage of this, yes I look ridiculous), and whilst I didn't want to take much in the way of makeup, I needed something for lazy family days as well as evenings out. The makeup I packed worked out pretty much perfectly, so I thought I'd show you what made the cut.

First off, makeup bag wise, I took my Muji Cosmetics Case (which is currently on sale on the Muji website, I'd really recommend picking one up, it's freaking awesome) because it fits a ton of stuff in, it's got a separate brush holder, and yet it's still compact. I can really fit so much stuff in this, it's always my go to for travel, it's what I took to New York and LA in the summer, as well as for my week in Spain and it's what I'll be using when I go away for Christmas. The perfect travel makeup bag if you ask me.

I knew we'd be having some pretty long days, so I wanted to take a primer, and I picked basically on portability. I went with the Laura Mercier Foundation Primer, because it's a good travel size, and it's nice and hydrating for this time of year. Foundation-wise I decided to pack my beloved Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua, because it's fab for day or night, it's got buildable coverage, and the plastic packaging is super travel friendly. It's a little light for me at the moment so I also took The Body Shop's Honey Bronzer, a perfect subtle matte bronzer that you can dust over the face for a subtle hint of warmth. Concealer-wise, no prizes for guessing what I packed here, the Maybelline The Eraser Concealer for undereye concealing and brightening, as well as the MAC Studio Finish Concealer for any pesky blemishes. I also chucked in my Bourjois Healthy Balance Powder, in case I wanted to bump up coverage, and because the packaging is super slim, especially compared to my usual pick of Soap & Glory One Heck of a Blot.

Cheek wise, I kinda struggled, I wanted to pack my NARS One Night Stand Palette, but six blushes seemed kinda excessive for two nights! Instead I plumped for the Bourjois Little Round Pot Blush in Ashes of Roses, a perfect autumnal dusky pink, which goes with any bold lip or smokey eye easily. I also took my The Balm Mary Lou Manizer Highlighter because I'm completely obsessed with it and can't be without it for even two days.

So let's talk about eyes! Again, no prizes for guessing what brow product I took, of course it was my beloved Soap and Glory Archery, which is perfect for travel since it's tiny and it has a spoolie too. For primer, I packed my mini Urban Decay Primer Potion, since it's the tiniest primer I own and I'm trying to use it up! For shadow, I ummed and ahhed but eventually settled on the Urban Decay Naked 2 Basics, which you guys know I'm obsessed with right now. I wasn't sure if this would work for evenings too, but this palette really holds it's own. It's got a few darker shades so in the evenings I just built these up for a darker, smokier look, but there's also some good lighter shades for in the day and as a highlight shades, and because they're all matte they just never look over the top. The packaging is super compact too, and it's got a giant mirror so it's perfect for travel. I also took my Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in Trooper, and my L'Oreal Super Liner Mat Matic in Ultra Black for smoking up my eye look in the evenings.  And for mascara, a sample size Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara, because this stuff gives you LASHES, all in capitals, and everyone needs big LASHES.

And as far as lipstick goes, I opted for the Dior Lip Glow for in the day, a pretty subtle pink that packs a moisturising punch, and Bite Beauty Luminous Creme Lipstick in Rose for evenings, a pretty pink that isn't bold, but is a beautiful shade to pair with a smoky eye.

I thought I'd briefly mention brushes too. I tried to take as few as possible, but still ended up with five! I took the Real Techniques buffing brush, for foundation and powder, the Real Techniques Contour Brush which I can't be without for concealing my under eyes, & the Space NK Contour Cheek Brush for blush and bronzer. I stripped eye brushes down to two, both from Blank Canvas Cosmetics, a MAC 217 dupe and a fluffy blending brush, with these two brushes you can do anything!

And that's it! Written down it looks like a lot but I had enough room in the makeup bag to fit in my hair and skincare bits too!
