With the new year comes a new budget, and I don't know about you but mine's looking a little lean in the 'money to blow on expensive makeup' department. It's sad, but I'm not too worried because there are a few drugstore gems that I've been playing with over the last few weeks, and I think you'll like them too!
Let's start with the Real Techniques Stippling Brush! This is the first Real Techniques brush I ever got, and I kinda forgot about it if I'm honest, and relegated it to cream blush application! I recently left my Buffing Brush in a hotel room, so I reached for this to blend out my makeup one morning and I remembered all the reasons I love it. Now, this doesn't work with every foundation, it's not great for heavy foundations, but for tinted moisturisers and light formula foundations it's fantastic, I've been particularly loving it with the YSL Le Teint Touche Eclat foundation, which has a really light, runny formula. It doesn't absorb any product, and it gives a good smooth finish.
Also in the rediscovery category, I've been using the Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer again this month, which isn't super high coverage, but it is really brightening for the under eyes. I like that this is super lightweight, it doesn't feel at all heavy on the skin! This is one of only three foundations that I've ever repurchased, and it's the one of my absolute drugstore favourites.
Moving on to new discoveries! Let's start with the Max Factor Wild Shadow Pencil in 5 Caramel Rage, a beautiful bronzed taupe cream shadow, which is incredibly long lasting. I've not heard much about these on the interwebs, but this is legitimately one of the longest lasting cream shadows I've ever used, and it's a gorgeous everyday colour.
I caved to peer pressure and finally picked up one of the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Matte Lipsticks, although I went for the most neutral option of the bunch, Happy Nude Year. I'm impressed with this so far, yes, it's pretty drying, but it's long lasting, it's got a gorgeous matte finish and it's a gorgeous dusky pink shade. Not one for chapped lips, but it's a beauty.
And finally, I've fallen head over heels for the Soap and Glory A Great Kisser Lip Balm, which I honestly didn't have high hopes for. In packaging and product appearance it seems really comparable to Vaseline, but it's actually really damn good. It's got a gorgeous peach scent, it's thick and hydrating, and you can still feel it working hours after you apply it. It works, it's cheap and I really like it.
What have you been loving from the drugstore recently?
