The Mascara Edit: Max Factor Edition

I'm constantly on the hunt for the perfect mascara, I'm almost convinced it doesn't exist! I was recently gifted two Max Factor mascaras, and I've definitely put them through their paces, so I thought I'd give you the deets.

First point, both of these mascaras are waterproof, and they mean WATERPROOF. Like these aren't going to flake or smudge or budge without a heavy duty makeup remover (I use The Body Shop's Camomile Sumptuous Cleansing Butter). The other thing is that these mascaras both layer fantastically well, if you're a fan of massive lashes, you can really build this up.

So starting with the Max Factor Clump Defy Waterproof Mascara. You've got a plastic wand with a curve similar to that of your lash line, the idea being that you can get more lashes at once with this shape, which I kind of agree with, but I do find these wands a little fiddly for getting in the corners. The bristles are very small and thin, and densely packed on to the brush, which means all your lashes are separated and coated individually in product, making them look less clumpy, and appear fuller. The product itself doesn't give masses of volume, but like I said, it can be built up really well, so you can achieve good volume with it. I love the look I can achieve with this, long, fluttery, voluminous lashes, but it does take a bit of work which just stops it from becoming a firm favourite! If it did what it does in four coats in one, I'd be sold!

Moving on to the Max Factor False Lash Effect Waterproof Mascara, I've had this before and loved it, so I was excited to try it out again. This has quite a dumpy, again plastic, wand, and it's got really thin bristles in a variety of lengths. It doesn't get the lashes quite as individually as the Clump Defy, but because of that it does give better volume, so if volume is what you're after, this is what you want. I find one coat of this is perfect for day to day, and two gives good volume for night time, so it's not as much effort to apply as Clump Defy, but you're getting more volume over length. I actually have this in the shade black/brown, I normally always get black because I find the shades can be a little off for black/browns, but this is spot on. It's black enough to give you noticable volume and length, but brown enough that it doesn't look like full on false lashes, so it's perfect for in the day!

Overall, I really like both of these mascaras, and definitely think I need to try out some more from the Max Factor Range!

What mascaras are you loving right now?
