So today is my birthday. Twenty one years ago, after thirty seven hours of labour, I arrived on the planet. Without much style, I'd imagine, since screaming naked newborns tend not to have much in the way of fashion sense. I haven't gained much since either.
When I was younger, I always thought that being twenty one would be the coolest age in the world, but what I didn't count on is just how old I would feel! Now, I'm not silly, I know that twenty one is still so young, but it's one hell of an adjustment coming to terms with the fact I'm really not a teenager anymore.
Twenty one is going to be a big year for me, I graduate and head on out into the real working world this year, and really, after May, I have no idea what's going to happen. It's equal parts exciting and terrifying!
Today will be spent with The Boy, eating many bad foods, visiting the Sky Gardens in Central London, before my family join us this evening for dinner. They're all staying in London so we can head off to Paris first thing tomorrow! I'm so excited for my birthday trip, I can't wait!
I figured what better time to tell you a bit more about myself than my birthday! I've been aware recently that whilst I tell you a lot about my life, you don't know all that much about me!
- Whilst I love living in London, it's a beautiful city with so much life, I miss home so much. I miss Bournemouth, the seaside, my family and my pets, the fresh air and the fact that you can't go anywhere after 5pm.
- I'm an emotional shopper. Most of my purchases are made when sad, stressed, or home sick.
- I'm pretty much incapable of walking past a Krispy Kreme or Lola's Cupcakes without buying anything.
- I love the rain, but I hate the wind.
- I feel instantly calmer when I'm anywhere with a beautiful view.
- I have no sense of style, and I struggle with clothes shopping. I have no idea what suits me.
- I love the idea of embracing a minimalist lifestyle, but I have serious emotional attachments to everything I own, and can't bring myself to get rid of anything.
- I meditate every day, it helps me feel calmer and happier, and more present in the day, it helps me appreciate all the good things in life.
- I love my bed, and being apart from it makes me sad.
- I love heels, but I'm 5"10 and they just can't be a part of my daily life.
- I love carbonara, but I'm allergic to dairy. The struggles.
- If I could, I would put garlic oil on everything.
- One day, I hope to be working for myself, writing, creating, and generally being a badass. Hopefully in a big white office that's not too far from my bed.
Mine's tomorrow :) No glamorous trips to Paris for me though, I'll be getting a bus out into Northumberland for afternoon tea!
ReplyDeleteI hope you have an amazing day, turning 21 is definitely one of the best birthdays xx

ReplyDeleteI have these thoughts with every year that passes (my next bday I'm 25!! *shudder*).
I know how you feel about London living and being from a more relaxed place- I feel the same.
But... enjoy Paris, it'll be great.

Aw man, I thought I gave my mom hell for being 2 weeks late past the expected due date and 12+ hours of labour (even when I was in the womb I was lazy...VERY NICE) I have to say, I seriously miss London now. LET ME GET MY FULL DRIVER'S LICENSE SO I CAN GO DRIVING AROUND ENGLAND. MAYBE I'LL VISIT YOU IN BOURNEMOUTH SOMEDAY.
ReplyDeleteI have no idea what clothes suit me either. My closet is a hot mess of everything.
(Also, I was going to link you to TSwift's 22, but then I realised....you're not 22...../yet/)

ReplyDeleteThanks Sarah!
ReplyDeleteHope you had an amazing birthday! xx
ReplyDeleteHave you tried a classic carbonara? Without the cream. Just boil the pasta, cook the bacon, drop the pasta on the pan with the bacon, take off the heat, stir, add whisked egg. Easy peasy, and it's pretty delicious!
ReplyDeleteI'm 1,80m so I feel your pain with heels. So much that I never properly learned to walk with them and I look like a dizzy duck, LOL.
