Soft and Neutral Makeup Picks

Recently, I've been downing products for an altogether more subtle makeup look. I'm not sure if it's a phase, or maybe I've just had enough of the dark smokey eyes and bold lips of Winter. Either way, right now I'm all about the soft and gentle, lighter colours and bases, barely there shades.

I've been reaching for my L'Oreal Eau de Teint Foundation, which has the texture of water and the finish of powder. It's light on the skin but still covers all the essentials, and is very long lasting, despite the fact you can't feel it on the skin.

Cheek-wise, there are two blushes in my stash that sit firmly in the barely-there, soft and neutral picks, one high end and one a little more budget friendly. The NARS Deep Throat Blush is the perfect hint of pink blush, it's got a gentle shimmer to it that just gives a little dimension to the cheeks. Very neutral, very pretty, very easy to wear. A more recent addition to the stash, the Max Factor Creme Puff Blush in Nude Mauve, a tawny blush that kind of sculpts, bronzes, blushes and shimmers all at once, all in a very subtle way. The perfect blush for gals who don't really 'do' blush, or for when you've got no idea what blush to wear.

If all out highlight just ain't your thang, you need to get the MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Lightscapade in your life. I love this for setting my under eye concealer, it just brightens the whole area subtly, without being over the top sparkly or glittery.

Let's talk eye makeup! I'm all about a matte, neutral eye for everyday, it's very subtle and it just accentuates the best features. To get this look easily, I go for a swipe of either the MAC Paint Pot in Painterly, or the Maybelline Colour Tattoo Leather Effect in Creamy Beige. The MAC offering is a creamy nude, whilst the latter is a soft warm brown, both look effortlessly simple smudged along the lids. The other option is the Urban Decay Naked 2 Basics Palette, which is home to a range of gorgeous cool toned neutral matte shadows that just make my heart sing.

Sometimes I want a little eye definition without having full on liner, so I tend to opt for the Soap and Glory Smoulder Kohl in Cocoa Bean, one of the few brown liner pencils on the market that doesn't have shimmer. When applied right along the lash line this gives subtle definition without looking too over the top or heavy.

Finally, let's talk lips. I love the Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in Boy, the perfect nude lipstick, that just oozes luxury. The Maybelline The Elixir Lipgloss in Caramel Infused is a gorgeous handbag product, a creamy nude gloss that is just so easy to wear it should be a crime.

What are your go to neutral makeup picks?
