Some of my most used, and favourite beauty products are limited edition. This really sucks, because once you run out, that's it. I used to be really funny about using limited edition products, I'd whip them out on special occasions, birthdays, Christmas and the occasional wedding, but that was it. It's only recently that I've decided, hey, it's just makeup. It's not gonna last forever, and it's not the end of the world when it's all gone, chances are there'll be something new by then. I've started getting a little slap happy with the limited editions, if you love them, use them. This is a pretty NARS heavy post, because I fall in love with everything limited edition they bring out.
The product that inspired this post is a fairly recent addition. For Christmas this year my lovely mum picked me out the Benefit X Matthew Williamson The Rich Is Back box kit, a beautiful kit containing four eyeshadows, a mascara, lipgloss and blush. The mascara is the standard Benefit They're Real so that's not a problem to get hold of, and whilst the eyeshadows are beautiful, they're shades I could probably duplicate elsewhere pretty easily. However, the blush, a shimmery peach called Gimme Fever and a bright Coral gloss called Inferno, are totally addictive, and typically, exclusive to the palette. Gimme Fever is possibly one of the best blushes I've ever tried, it's got a tone which makes it kind of a blush/bronze hybrid, wearing it adds enough definition to the cheeks that you can skip out on contour easily, but the colour is subtle and really flattering, just adding natural colour and shape to the cheeks. I haven't seen a lipgloss in a similar colour to Inferno before, I love adding it to neutral lipsticks to really make them pop, it's so beautiful. I don't think I've ever worn a lipgloss as much as this one. I believe this kit is still available on the Benefit website at a discounted price, and I'd wholeheartedly recommend picking it up.
One of the most used items in my stash just happens to (sadly) be limited edition. I picked up the NARS And God Created The Woman Palette around a year ago now. I told myself I didn't need it, it sold out, and then I just had to have it. When I was back in Bournemouth I asked in the local Space NK on the off chance and they had one left. It was fate. It came home with me and I've never looked back. This is without a doubt my most used eyeshadow palette, it's got everything I need for my go to looks, pretty champagne lid colours, taupes and browns. Despite only having six shadows in it, I've created so many different looks using this palette. It's the perfect size for travel with a big old mirror too. It took all my strength not to order a back up when this randomly became available on Space NK again. My love for this palette of course dictated that I buy the NARSissist Eyeshadow Palette, which is as far as I'm concerned, the best palette in the whole makeup world. Bold claim I know.
The love affair with limited edition NARS products doesn't end there. It's gotten to a point now where there is not a single NARS collection I overlook, I can't help it, it's my favourite makeup brand by a mile. The Guy Bourdin Collection was no exception, particularly the One Night Stand Palette and Day Dream Blush. The One Night Stand palette was a steal, it retailed around the £40 mark, but with N.Dulge Points I actually paid less than the cost of a single NARS Blush. Pretty good deal for four blushes, a bronzer and highlight. I use this palette so much and it's perfect for travel. As far as Day Dream goes, I've mentioned it a lot here, it's my favourite blush, and I dread the day I run out.
MAC release so many limited edition products, it's impossible to keep up with them all. I don't normally end up picking anything out (there's too much in the standard line to keep up with), but a couple of things have made it into my collection. I loved the Temperature Rising collection last year, and whilst I had my eyes on an eyeshadow quad, I restrained and left with just the Ripe For Love Blush. I'm so glad I picked this up because I have yet to find a blush that looks similar. It's a gorgeous burnt peach shade with a hint of shimmer, although this doesn't translate to the cheeks. It's beautiful.
Another MAC collection that made it's way into was the Archie's Girls range. I left with two pieces from the collection, but my favourite has to be the Pearlmatte Face Powder in Flatter Me, a beautiful peach pink matte shade that looks so natural on the cheeks.
The first product I ever bought from Bobbi brown was the Rich Chocolate Palette. I fell in love with it's matte shades, and eventually hunted it down in duty free (note: never fly alone at 6am in the morning. It was just me and alllll the makeup counters, and it was expensive.), so I got 20% off. It's a gorgeous palette, I reach for it whenever I fancy a matte look, or if I'm doing a smokey eye and I need a colour to deepen the crease. I'm really impressed with the quality of these shadows, and would definitely pick up more in the future. Another Bobbi Brown product in the stash is the Sheer Lip Colour in Pink Flush, from January's Nude Glow Collection. I think this is one of my most used lipsticks, despite the fact I've had it less than two months, I wore it pretty much every day in February.
The drugstore isn't home to many limited edition collections, but Sleek tend to have a few every now and then. I hunted high and low for the Mirrored Pink Blush from the Aqua Collection last year, and I'm glad I did. It's actually pretty similar to Day Dream, but a lot less subtle, it's a bolder pink with a bit more shimmer. It's a really pretty spring pick, it really brightens the cheeks.
And lastly, a candle. I was lucky enough to be given the Diptyque Ecorce de Pin Candle for Christmas this year, and I'm holding on to the last little bit. This stuff literally smells like a Christmas tree and a sexy man. A sexy man carrying a Christmas tree? There isn't a candle that compares to the quality of Diptyque.
I have written a guest post over on BeautyThrill today for the lovely Beth, so make sure you check that out too!
