The Review: Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua

I never expected it to, but this foundation has totally stolen my heart. I'm not massively loyal to any particular foundations, I have favourites but nothing I reach for day after day, and this has definitely changed that.

I picked the Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua Foundation back in January with some Christmas Gift Vouchers, and the first thing that struck me is how tiny the bottle is. It actually holds 30ml of product which is standard across the board, my YSL, L'Oreal, Bourjois, Dior, Rimmel foundations all are 30ml too, but because of the packaging it looks really small. I can't decide whether I love the packaging or hate it, it's small and light making it super convenient for travel, but I can't help but think for the price tag, I'd prefer it to look a little more luxurious, it's definitely not the prettiest foundation bottle I own. The bottle itself is squeezy, it has a tiny nozzle to squeeze out the product, it's pretty accurate but I have a feeling that when I get to the dregs of the product I'm going to have to cut open the bottle to get it all out.

You have to shake the bottle before you dispense it which I originally found a little annoying but since have gotten used to, it takes two seconds and wakes me up a bit which is always handy in the mornings, plus this is pretty standard for any water based foundation. The consistency is not at all what you'd expect from such a light product, it comes out slightly thick and much more like a gel foundation, but when you apply it to the skin it's weightless, you honestly don't feel like there is anything on your skin at all. Despite that, it definitely gives a good medium coverage, I still need a little help from concealer for any red blemishes, and something to brighten up my undereyes, but it evens out my skin tone really nicely. It's not particularly matte or dewy, it just gives a really natural finish which I love.

I was a little bit concerned about the shade when I first got it, I have B10 the lightest shade, and it definitely looks a little on the yellow side of things when you squeeze it out, and I definitely have pink undertones, but when applied to the skin it doesn't look yellow at all. It's actually a great match but I imagine it would suit a lot of people since it's not really heavy pigmentation, and it blends out nicely.

What I love most about this foundation is how easy it is to wear and apply. I can slap this on with my fingers and no mirror and it looks just as good as if I use my buffing brush. It looks really natural, but the coverage is buildable if I'm having a bad skin day.

Have you tried this foundation before? What is your favourite, go to foundation?
