Other than Essie, Model's Own probably comes in as my favourite nail polish brand. I love that if I'm after a particular shade there's a 99% chance they'll have it. The formula is always great and I find the lasting power really good. The only little gripe I have is that occasionally with some of them the brush becomes separated from the lid, and I have to glue it back in, but that doesn't bother me enough to stop me buying them, especially with the £5 price tag.
Back in January, Model's Own had a 50% off sale on all their polishes making them £2.50 each, and the danger of having a Bottleshop right next to my uni meant that I, of course, had to have a look. I ended up leaving with six polishes.
The first shade I picked up was Purple Grey, which is definitely the sort of shade I'm most drawn to. It's kind of a bruised plum sort of shade, a really dark purple but with a grey base. It's a super easy shade to wear and it looks really sophisticated on the nails. It's totally opaque with just one coat and has a super glossy finish, if you were in a rush and didn't have time for a topcoat this still looks great!
I then grabbed the shade Utopia which is one I've seen spoken about a fair bit in the Blogosphere. I'm not one for the white mani look, it just looks like I've tipexed my nails, but this is a beautiful off white, with a hint of lilac to it. One coat can look a little streaky but two is perfect. This looks great as a full mani but also as an accent nail paired with Purple Grey.
Model's Own have two different types of glitter polishes, some that are like glitter topcoats, that you can layer over another colour to add a little sparkle, and others that give a full on glitter nail effect. Pink Fizz falls into the latter category and I have been obsessed with it recently. It's a metallic dusky rose glitter that completely covers the nail. It doesn't feel textured at all, even without a topcoat it's pretty smooth. I have worn this polish four or five times in the last six weeks, I can't get enough of it!
A glitter polish which is more of a topcoat is Rocket (which yes, I only bought because of the name) which is from the Firework collection. It has big chunks of orange, red & silver glitter, and then multicoloured tiny glitter. I love pairing this with orange nail polish, it looks really pretty.
A colour which works really well with Rocket is Birthday Cake, a bright pink coral shade. I was really drawn to this since it kind of reminds me of Essie Cute as a Button (but slightly brighter), a shade which is always sold out in my local Boots. It's a one coat wonder, glossy and pretty.
The last colour I picked up was from the Velvet Goth Collection, the shade Valerian, which is a beautiful deep blue, with different blue and silver glitters in. It has a matte finish which looks really pretty, but you can slap on a glossy topcoat and it will look just as pretty!
I'm really impressed with these polishes, especially considering how cheap they were! Have you tried any Model's Own Polishes? What are your favourite polish brands?
