The Makeup Cleanup

I tend to have two kinds of Sundays, the lazy kind where you stay in bed til noon, eat croissants and drink coffee, and spend the day either reading a book or watching old movies, or the productive, sort shit out kind. Every month or so I like to spend some of my Sunday having a makeup clean up, and this weekend is that time again!

Sometimes it's hard to know where to start when giving your makeup a clean out, so I thought I'd run you guys through how I like to do it!

I start by taking everything out of all the draws and dumping it all on to my bed, before going into the drawers and over my dressing table with an anti bacterial spray. This is something everyone should do regularly, but particularly if you have clear acrylic drawers that show up every fingerprint, you'll want to do it every couple of weeks.

Once that's all clean, I like to go through all the product piled up, chucking out anything that's out of date, and putting things aside that I don't use to either sell or give to my sister. This is something I'm becoming more strict about, I'm trying to keep my makeup collection just to things I love!

The next step is to grab a pack of antibac wipes, and clean down the packaging of everything I'm keeping. This is a step a lot of people skip, but packaging gets really grubby, so it's good to give it all a good clean every now and then. I also use these wipes to wipe down the inside of any makeup bags I've been using!

Now admittedly, I don't do this next step every month, but I do try to do it every few months. I like to take a small glass, with a little vodka in it, and use it to disinfect my lipsticks. Just dip the lipstick in the vodka for 20-30 seconds, and then use a clean tissue to dab it dry. This helps kill off any germs without ruining the lipstick. I always do this if I've been ill too! Similarly, I like to spray eyeshadows with a little rubbing alcohol every now and then too!

All the makeup goes away, I usually use this time to give everything a shuffle around, moving different products into my 'everyday drawers'. I then deep clean all my makeup brushes (I use Dr Bronners Soap for that!), and wash out the jars I keep them in. And voila, you've got a clean vanity ready for a new week.
