Thoughts On: NailKale by Nails Inc

I've said it before, I'm not a big fan of Nails Inc's standard polish line, I find it streaky and difficult to apply, and even with a base coat some of the darker colours still stain my nails. There are so many lines out there that are cheaper and quite frankly, better, so I never bother with them. All that being said, I love their 'effects' lines, the Gel Effects polishes are sublime, and their glitter and confetti topcoats are just beautiful, and whilst they're definitely a treat not something to base a collection off, it's nice to treat yo'self occasionally.

The latest addition to the ranks is the NailKale line, dubbed a 'superfood' nail range that claims to nourish your nails and protect against splitting. The polishes are formulated with kale extract, and supposedly nourishes your nails with all the goodness of kale, making your nails brighter, stronger and generally healthier.

Now, I hadn't done much reading into all this when I picked it up, I'll be honest, I was drawn to the colour and hoping the formula wouldn't be shite (not a way I'd recommend shopping, but I had 'voucher happiness', a syndrome that occurs when you have a voucher for a shop and no idea what to buy). The shade is Duke Street, Nails Inc describe this as a Smoked Lilac, and I think that sums it up perfectly. It's a beautiful spring lilac, but it's just got a hint of something something to it. It's not grey toned, but it almost hints of grey. Does that make any sense?! Probably not. But it's just gorgeous. I've been on the hunt for the perfect lilac for a long time, and this is it, it's just so beautiful.

Formula-wise, it's not quite as good as the Gel Effects, but two coats is opaque and glossy too. I find pastel shades generally can be a little streaky or chalky, but this is great. As far as superfood qualities go, I mean, I don't know. I've been wearing this on and off for nearly a month, and I haven't noticed a difference, but to be fair, my nails don't really grow anyway, all day bashing away at a keyboard keeps them short. But I love the shade, so I'm not all that bothered anyway.

The verdict? Love the polish. I mean, you don't need to run out and buy one, but if a shade catches your eye and you fancy a treat, go for it.
